Description

Igreja e Mosteiro de São Francisco, located in Praça 1º de Maio in Évora, is one of the city's most important monuments. Built between the 15th and 16th centuries, it combines Gothic and Manueline architectural elements. The church is renowned for its large and monumental nave and for housing the mysterious Chapel of Bones, one of Évora's most iconic sites, where the walls are lined with human bones, inviting visitors to reflect on the fragility of life. The convent was once a significant religious and political center.
